Equinix launches Managed Solutions in Australia

Equinix has launched Equinix Managed Solutions (EMS) in Australia, offering managed private cloud and infrastructure services aimed at organisations dealing with longer hardware delivery times, higher equipment costs and requirements to keep data and processing onshore.

Equinix said the Australian rollout comes as organisations increase investment in AI, cloud modernisation and hybrid IT strategies while also facing constraints including specialist IT skills shortages and evolving security and compliance requirements.

According to Equinix, EMS combines its digital infrastructure with managed compute, storage and AI-related services, allowing customers to consume infrastructure “as a service” rather than purchasing and operating it directly.

“Many organisations are reaching a point where traditional approaches to managing infrastructure can no longer keep pace with the demands of AI, hybrid cloud and increasing cyber security requirements,” said Joseph Crawford, Vice President, Equinix Managed Solutions. “Owning infrastructure is no longer where organisations create value; value comes from what they build on top of it.

“EMS simplifies IT operations, optimises infrastructure costs and accelerates digital transformation, allowing organisations to focus on the applications, data and experiences that differentiate their business while Equinix manages the underlying infrastructure.”

Equinix positioned the service as a response to common infrastructure pressures including lengthy procurement cycles, infrastructure refresh requirements and what it described as escalating public cloud costs. The company said EMS is intended to support a shift from capital expenditure to operating expenditure, help organisations place workloads across hybrid environments, and reduce the operational burden on internal teams.

For regulated sectors, Equinix said EMS supports data sovereignty, governance and compliance needs by providing greater control over where workloads and data reside while using a cloud operating model.

Equinix said the EMS portfolio includes managed private cloud, storage and a “managed AI factory” service, along with implementation services for Equinix Fabric and Network Edge. It said services are backed by enterprise service level agreements and include 24/7 monitoring, maintenance, software updates and support through to the operating system layer.

Equinix said the EMS portfolio includes managed private cloud (single-tenant or multi-tenant), managed private storage (block, file and object storage with encryption, ransomware protection and replication), managed AI factory (where customers supply GPUs and hardware while Equinix manages infrastructure operations), managed private backup (including retention and off-site protection), and enablement services for Equinix Fabric virtual connections and selected Network Edge services.

The company said customers retain ownership and control of data, with privileged access managed as part of the service, and that EMS is intended for industries including financial services, healthcare, manufacturing, government, technology and digital media.

Gartner forecasts IT spending in Australia will exceed A$172 billion in 2026, up 8.9% from 2025, according to a Gartner press release cited by Equinix.
