Rubrik and Zscaler have announced a new partnership and technology integration to streamline data protection and compliance and boost cyber resilience.
According to the new Rubrik Zero Labs’ State of Data Security report, data security is becoming increasingly complex as mission-critical datasets rapidly grow and become more distributed.
According to new Rubrik data, in 2022, organisations are securing on average 61% more data in the cloud and 226% more data in SaaS applications than years prior highlighting a significant shift in security strategies. In Zscaler’s 2023 Phishing Report, Phishing attacks around the world rose nearly 50% in 2022 compared to 2021, as a result of new and evolving threats like Adversary-in-the-Middle (AitM) attacks, Phishing-as-a-Service (PaaS) kits, and AI tools like ChatGPT.
Rubrik’s integration with Zscaler Data Loss Prevention (DLP) proactively identifies sensitive business data across enterprise, cloud and SaaS environments so that specific data protections can be implemented easily to prevent data loss. Traditionally organisations have struggled to identify sensitive data across their digital estate since scanning production systems is complex, “CPU-intense”, and requires separate indexing infrastructure to manage.
“The growth and sophistication of cyberattacks show no signs of slowing down and they’re all after one thing – your data,” said Bipul Sinha, CEO and Co-founder of Rubrik. “That’s why we’re excited to partner with Zscaler, another leader in cybersecurity with zero trust ingrained in their DNA. Together, we will help joint customers mitigate risks from cyberattacks and provide organisations with cyber resilience.”
“It is paramount for organisations to prioritize a zero trust strategy to keep business-critical operations running,” said Jay Chaudhry, CEO, chairman and founder of Zscaler. “Combining Zscaler’s and Rubrik’s leadership and expertise in zero trust data security allows our joint customers to reap the benefits of protecting their most sensitive and important data with ease, enabling them to be more agile and secure.”
“The reputation of Data Loss Prevention has not been favourable as past implementations were often highly manual, management was painful, and the burden of data classification was often pushed onto the end user. The Rubrik and Zscaler integration addresses a critical need through automation by allowing organisations to easily implement protections on critical data while minimising the management burden on data security professionals,” said Frank Dickson, Group Vice President, Security & Trust, IDC.
The solution will be generally available in the coming months.
Meanwhile, Rubrik has also announced it has increased its Ransomware Recovery Warranty offering from up to $5 million to up to $10 million for recovery-related costs.
Rubrik says it doubled its warranty as a response, in part, to the National Cybersecurity Strategy unveiled by the White House on March 2. A critical piece of the strategy calls for the industry to “rebalance” to a shared responsibility for effective cyber defence.
Currently, the targets of cyber assault – be they individuals, businesses, or government agencies – bear the financial and reputational burden for cyberattacks. The Biden administration advocates shifting a greater portion of an entity’s security liability to “organisations that are most capable and best positioned to reduce risks for all of us,” to trusted security partners.
“We believe that the new White House strategy increases the right national focus and investment, and will help to ensure that our digital ecosystem is resilient and future ready,” said Bipul Sinha, CEO and co-founder of Rubrik. “It is important for us to expand our Ransomware Recovery Warranty to deepen trust, and to further show our customers that we stand together with them in the fight against cybercrime. We were first with our warranty, and we welcome the increase of shared accountability and responsibility in this new era of cybersecurity.”
“Ransomware and other cyber threats increase exponentially, and no organisation should feel as if they are fighting the cyber battle alone,” said Suzette Kent, former federal CIO and chair of Rubrik’s public sector advisory board. “The White House issued a call to action to help improve security posture, and Rubrik’s Ransomware Recovery Warranty rises to a national call to action. This initiative reflects the much-needed ingenuity required to stand up to bad actors. In the long run, this collaborative spirit will fuel innovation, help increase preparedness for cyberattacks, and drive business resiliency no matter what dangers threaten our organisations.”
Ransomware attacks have grown into an $8.4B industry globally, becoming one of the greatest threats to our economy. According to the Rubrik Zero Labs State of Data Security report surveying over 1,600 IT and security leaders, more than half of the respondents’ organisations were impacted by a ransomware attack in the last year.
