Matt Salier has resigned as chief executive officer of the Australian Cyber Collaboration Centre, effective immediately. Salier calls it a difficult decision.

“It’s been a journey full of highs and lows, and looking after a membership organisation in such a critical industry has been an honour,” he said on LinkedIn.

“It has, however, been taxing personally and professionally, and the toll taken requires me to step back, reflect and recharge. The rate of burn out in this industry remains unacceptably high, and more needs to be done to address this.”

During his two and a half years in the role, Salier focused on initiatives including leading the Australian team in the NATO Locked Shields exercise for three consecutive years, building out a national capture flag competition, Cyber Battle, now in its second year, and improving training and research offerings through the Australian Insider Risk Centre of Excellence building a community of practitioners in the process.

“Matt’s impact during this time has been far-reaching, raising the profile of the organisation nationally and internationally,” reads an Australian Cyber Collaboration Centre statement. “He has developed a clear structure and foundation on which the next Chief Executive can build.”

Salier also led Australia’s participation in the global cyber sentiment survey Oh Behave, reinforced core programs for small businesses, and the Australian Cyber Collaboration Centre’s work with the ASD delivering IRAP training.

“The Board would like to take this opportunity to thank Matt for his efforts and wish him well in his future endeavours.”
