Akamai has announced the launch of a new ‘scrubbing centre’ in Melbourne later this year.
A scrubbing centre is a centralised centre where malicious web traffic is removed, enabling Akamai to fight increasingly large and complex DDoS attacks against Australian customers. As seen with the record-setting memcached attack that peaked 1.3 Tbps in February 2018. The centre houses researchers that process the web traffic data, identify legitimate users, and re-direct any malicious threats. The scrubbing centre will be manually staffed, offering 24-hour support to local Australian customers.
The new Prolexic DDoS mitigation scrubbing centre will add to Akamai’s existing footprint in the region – Sydney, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Osaka and Singapore – and extend the resiliency of the Prolexic Platform in Australia.
In addition the news, we can offer you an interview with Fernando Serto, Head of Security Technology & Strategy, Akamai, to discuss how the scrubbing centre works, how many jobs are expected to result in the launch, and how this will improve Australia’s cyber security posture.
