Australian Facebook users affected by the Cambridge Analytica data misuse scandal have until 31 December 2025 to register for compensation under a $50 million payment program arising from a landmark settlement with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).
The scheme was established by Meta Platforms under an enforceable undertaking accepted by the Australian Information Commissioner in December 2024. The undertaking marked the end of seven years of investigation and litigation in Australia connected to the Cambridge Analytica matter, which first came to light globally in 2018.
More than 300,000 Australians are believed to be eligible for a payment. The program is being administered independently by KPMG, and individuals can apply directly via:

The OAIC has clarified that it is not involved in administering the scheme and cannot intervene in eligibility or payment assessments.
The payment program is intended to compensate Australians whose personal information was improperly accessed or shared through a third-party Facebook app that subsequently transferred data to political consultancy Cambridge Analytica.
Meta’s enforceable undertaking included commitments to improved privacy compliance measures in addition to the monetary redress.
Australians seeking compensation are advised to submit their registration before the deadline to ensure they remain eligible for assessment.
