Bots are here to stay. As automation is made easier, bots represent both great business opportunities and increased risk. One example is the rise of “sneaker bots” – the use of resale bot networks to buy online limited edition products, to sell them for more than the original price in an aftermarket.

One hacker was discovered offering $15,000 USD to develop a sneaker bot, according to the latest Akamai 2019 State of the Internet / Security: DDoS and Application Attacks report. In the job listing, the hacker requested a freelance developer to create bots for websites such as Adidas, Nike, Supreme and Footlocker.
