The Forum of Incident Response and Security Teams (FIRST) has launched The Incident Response Hall of Fame to recognize visionaries, leaders and luminaries who have made significant contributions to the development and advance of global security. The new initiative is a place to virtually celebrate contributions to the Incident Response Community and cyber security in general.

The Hall of Fame not only aims to honor those who have contributed but also to show appreciation to inductees by offering a lifetime Liaison Membership for a symbolic monetary sum each year. Inductees into the Hall of Fame will fall into two categories, either individual or team, and will be announced annually and honored at the FIRST conference banquet.

“We are indebted to so many and would like to show our appreciation to both the individuals and the teams who have played an important role in the conceptualization, building, and development of Incident Response capabilities around the world, particularly those who may have made crucial, behind-the-scene contributions and who are yet to be properly recognized,” stated Thomas Schreck, Chair of FIRST. “As a global leader in incident response, with services that include training and sharing knowledge on cyber security issues, we feel this initiative is important for building on our capabilities and inspiring development in this sector.”

Honorees will be chosen according to a strict set of criteria which includes: the impact that an individual or team has made on the development or growth of global Incident Response capabilities and their continued demonstration of relevance to the Internet’s ongoing advancement and evolution; the influence relative to the Internet that a contribution has had on the work of others in the field, society at large or another critical audience or region; the innovation of a contribution in terms of breaking new ground, establishing new paradigms, eliminating significant obstacles or accelerating Internet advancements; the impact of a contribution on the Internet’s reach among society at large with key audiences or specific regions with global impact.

Individuals or groups may also be honored for lifelong accomplishment, contributions to more than one area of the FIRST and/or the overall benefit of their technological contribution to society without regard for the length of time a nominee has worked in or contributed to the industry. Nominations can also be made posthumously.

Those eligible to nominate include past inductees, members of the FIRST Board of Directors (though they themselves cannot be nominated), every representative, secondary representative of a team that is a member of FIRST, and FIRST Liaison members. All nominations will be reviewed and screened to ensure they meet the nomination criteria and eligibility.

The Incident Response Hall of Fame will also have its own Advisory Board, comprised of a select group of past inductees who, along with the FIRST Board of Directors, will be responsible for the final selection of the Hall of Fame inductees.

Nominations can be made here up to April 1st, 2019 with the inaugural inductees to FIRST’s Incident Response Hall of Fame announced June 2019 at the annual FIRST conference in Edinburgh, Scotland.
